Stop Guessing Where to Spend Your Renovation Budget

Stop Guessing Where to Spend Your Renovation Budget

I sat down with interior designer Cassie Jorde, founder of Maison Jorde, and got her real answer to the question every homeowner asks: where do you actually splurge, and where can you save? Here's the full breakdown.

Plumbing: Semi-Splurge

Faulty vents equal water damage equal mold. Don't cheap out here. Quality brands fail far less and have customer service that will actually back you up.

Stone: Splurge Selectively

Go natural, but be strategic. Save on secondary spaces, splurge on your kitchen or primary bath showstopper. Can't decide? Quartzite over marble for durability.

Lighting: Splurge Where It Counts

Kitchen, dining room, living room. Supporting rooms are still nice, but they're just not the star. Don't grab something from Home Depot for rooms that matter.

Tile: 50/50, But Finish It Right

You can save on tile, but please, no Schluter edge. It instantly cheapens even expensive tile. Use quarter round, pencil liner, or Jolly Trends instead.

Hardware and Lighting Switches: Always Splurge

High touch equals high frequency. You touch these things 10 times a day, so spend here.

Save this before your next renovation.
